This one threw me for a loop. My editor sent me out for a building mug, and after some cajoling, I convinced the good folks washing cars to let me make some pictures. When I got back to the newsroom, I found out why the car wash was closing. This is the Teen Challenge Car Wash Express in Cape Girardeau Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018. The car wash will close at the end of the year for the well-being of the workers, according to executive director James Bolin. Vehicles sometimes contain drugs, guns or alcohol, Bolin wrote, and so can be unsafe temptations for individuals in the Teen Challenge program, many of whom are in recovery from drug addiction.

Volunteer waterboy Izaac Pursley, left, covers his ears as Notre Dame head Coach Paul Unterreiner yells to his team. The bulldogs, down by a single point, had just been awarded two free throws with 2.7 seconds left in a quarterfinal match against the Oran Eagles. Senior Cameron Dame (below) would sink the tying shot, but miss the second. The Bulldogs then won in OT.

Rebound

At 6 foot, 9 inches, Seth Buessink (33) of Jackson was the tallest player in the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament. In real life, he's really really tall.

Cape Central's Kinyon Hodges, who during the championship game just would not stop doing this.^^^

Christmas tourney fans... yeesh.

Defeat.

The unsung heroes.
